History

Near the course of Serpenna creek Vicino grows Rinidia Agritourism. Historically the plain is called Padule plain, as in the past this area had to face frequent flooding due to the overflow of the Serpenna. During eighteenth century some measures to reclaim were taken to enable the nearby villages a better harvest stability.

Moreover, the famous Via Franchigena passes through here, a routa that was born in VI-VII century by the Longobards will who, to connect Lazio to Emila Romagna, traced a road that took the name of strada Monte Bardone, crossing Val d’Elsa, Val d’Arbia and Val d’Orcia.

In IX century under the Franks domination, succeeded to Longobards, this road was absorbed in the one that became the biggest arterial road connecting Italy to European continent, Via Franchigena.

All the territory around Rinidia is full of medieval hamlets, located in different places, some converted to farmahouses, some other remained untouched until today. It is possible to visit splendid places as Orgia, Tonni, Tegoia, Torri passing through the woods of the Montagnola, were once again we are surrounded by the tracks of our past.
